Best known for the distinctive female centrepieces of his paste ups and murals on the walls of Melbourne, globetrotting street artist Rone returns to his home town for his first local show of 2012 in the more conventional surroundings of Collingwood’s Backwoods Gallery.
Fall from Grace sees Rone continue to showcase his female muse, but in a different light across 12 new works – four on canvas (including one triptych), four on brick and four on paper, all peeled, tattered and aged to reflect the outdoor environment he’s accustomed to working in.
It seems that Rone has been getting a lot of coverage lately and his large scale female paintings have surely caught my attention this week. The consistency and quality never fails to impress, which goes to show that when you are good at something, sticking to your guns can be a wise move. Rone’s style maintains a graphic design aesthetic that always manages to look fresher than your average street art. He recently took a trip to Paris & London and painted some great pieces and also some in Hawaii. See r-o-n-e.com for more.
